A fair world – free from poverty
ActionAid’s goal is a fair world free from poverty. Therefore, since the organization was founded in 1972, it has been working persistently for human rights and poverty alleviation around the world.
The organization is currently active in 48 countries and in each country they focus on working together with local organizations and personnel towards common goals based on local needs and conditions. ActionAid works in areas where poverty is most widespread and with the most vulnerable groups. Together with these groups ActionAid works for sustainable change, always based on a human rights perspective.
In all programs, projects and campaigns, ActionAid always has a special focus on women and girls. This is because the majority of people living in poverty, who lack fundamental rights, are women. Focusing on gender equality and rights leads to long-term sustainable development. The starting point for ActionAid’s work is always local needs. However, within the organization, various forms of work is done to create political influence at local, national and international levels, as laws, regulations and behaviors at national and international level affect the conditions for change.
